Czech game developer SCS Software has canceled the upcoming Heart of Russia DLC for its smash hit, Euro Truck Simulator 2.
In a blog postthe firm said this was due to the war in Ukraine, adding that when Russia initially invaded the country in February, the “long-awaited” DLC was about two months away from release.
“When developing our games, we try to be as apolitical as possible, in a way that shields the global gaming public from day-to-day controversies,” the company wrote.
“We like the idea that our common passion, for a truck simulation, allows people to connect, take a virtual visit to a neighboring country in peace and enjoy a hobby that we commonly share , rather than letting something divisive fall into place. But since our DLC, Heart of Russia, is directly about Russia, and with so many people suffering, we’ve decided not to release the DLC so it won’t be in no way seen as supporting or tolerating aggression.
“We firmly believe that there is hope for the proud people of Ukraine to prevail and the suffering to end for all. Injustice cannot and must not win. And, when the time is right for Ukraine to rebuild and heal, we will strive to find a way for our Heart of Russia DLC to play the part it can in this healing process, for everyone.”
