Father Larry Barile ordained priest> Diocese of Norwich

A celebration of the priestly ordination of Rev. Lawrence Barile for service as a priest in the Diocese of Norwich took place on December 8, 2021.

The Ordering Ritual Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Norwich, with the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, DD, Bishop of Norwich, as the Ordering Celebrant.

A gathering of faithful guests, diocesan confreres and deacons were at the cathedral to attend the ordination. The mass was also broadcast live.

The ordination rite began with the presentation of the elect by the Reverend Jonathan Ficara, director of vocations of the diocese.

Father Ficara proclaimed that the elect were deemed worthy of the priesthood.

“Counting on the help of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, we choose Lawrence John Barile, our brother, for the Order of the priesthood,” said Bishop Côté.

Everyone in attendance stood up and clapped to show their consent.

As the litany of supplications was sung, the elect bowed down to the altar while all present, through the intercession of the saints, requested that the grace of God be upon the new priest.

Bishop Côté then laid his hands on the heads of the elect. It is by this laying on of hands that the Sacrament of Holy Orders was conferred. This was followed by the recitation of the ordination prayer.

Father Barile was then invested with the stole and chasuble by Reverend Raymond D. Introvigne, Director of Spiritual Renewal Services.

Father Barile transmitted his blessing to Bishop Côté and extended his blessing to members of his family.

After the ordination, the new priest gave his blessing to the guests, who were waiting in line inside the cathedral.
