Music plays a major role in fortnite live. Epic Games has gone to great lengths to fill its battle royale with the sound of music, whether it’s the game’s many dance emotes or live concerts. fortnite players can attend with their in-game avatars. Then it only makes sense that Epic is stepping up its efforts and also starting to partner with real-life events, which it has now discontinued. On Thursday, Epic announced a partnership with the Coachella Music and Arts Festival to bring Coachella to fortnite players in several exciting ways.
For starters, Epic Games will introduce a new Icon Radio station for fortnite. From now until May 16, fortnite players will be able to activate Icon Radio in Joyride vehicles to listen to a playlist of artists playing Coachella 2022. Over 30 different artists will be featured as part of the radio station. As for the artists that players will be able to hear in fortnite, they will have to experience them for themselves. Epic does not list them, perhaps wanting to reserve the surprise for players to discover.
Beyond Coachella Radio, fortnite will also be releasing a number of music festival-related skins and cosmetics over the coming weeks. Available starting today, Wilder and Lyric outfits, plus matching accessories. Wilder matches Finfin Back Bling, Neon Biter Pickaxe, and Finfin Flair Wrap. Lyrical matches with the Swaguaro Back Bling and Festival Shredder Axe. Both skins include alternate Cosmic Equalizer styles that are visually responsive to music.
A second wave of Coachella cosmetics will then launch on Thursday, April 21, featuring Alto and Poet outfits. Alto includes the Sonic Vibes Back Bling with his outfit and matches the softest Electropalm pickaxe. Poet includes the Cosmonautic Helmet Back Bling with his outfit and matches it with the Cactical Crusher Pickaxe and Mainstage Wrap. Alto and Poet outfits are inherently responsive to music. They will be available separately or together through the Dancing at Coachella Bundle, which includes the Enter the Coachellaverse loading screen for fortnite.
Finally, Epic says it will be a party fortnite‘s partnership with Coachella with a #Fortography event. Players are invited to take screenshots with their new Coachella skins and share them with the hashtag #Fortography. Epic will then share a collection of their favorites in a blog post. blog on April 29.
Overall, the partnership between fortnite and Coachella is somewhat limited. The cosmetics are nice, but many fans were probably hoping to experience something more material in the world of battle royale gaming. The skins, at the very least, do some fun things in response to the music that could be exciting at future music events. And maybe Epic will have more musical surprises before the festivities end.
fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and mobile devices.
