Genshin Impact – Who are Yunjin and Shenhe?

After weeks of speculation about the 2.4 leaks, MiHoYo has officially revealed new characters joining the Genshin Impact list, Yun Jin and Shenhe. We still have Update 2.3 to deal with right now, which will be released soon, but Teyvat sees a new update every five to six weeks, so it won’t be long before Yun Jin and Shenhe debut. While waiting for new characters, we’ve compiled everything we currently know about the game’s new four and five star heroes.

Some information comes from leaks, fan speculation, and our own experiences in Genshin Impact. So if you are considering any of these spoiler territories, don’t continue! Instead, catch up first and check out the news MiHoYo officially confirms.

Who is Genshin Impact’s Yun Jin?

“A performance of Yun Jin in our tearoom earns enough Mora that we don’t have to open for a whole month!” – Heyu Tea House Fan Er’ye

Yun jin is one of two characters that MiHoYo confirmed via his blog. Known as Stage Lucida, Yun Jin is the current director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe and is described as “a famous figure in the lyric scene of Liyue Harbor”. She is another Pole weapon user like Zhongli and has been mentioned in character vocal lines from the start.

If you have Xingqiu, Xinyan, or Keqing, you can listen to these lines after improving your friendship level. The two comment on Yun Jin’s popularity in Liyue, noting that the Heyu tea house is packed to capacity when the director performs. Xingqiu’s line suggests that he is certainly on good terms with her, as he explains that he keeps a pot of tea leaves under his bed for her just in case his theatrical inspiration runs out. Apparently, Yun Jin really likes to get creative whenever she drinks a drink that she likes.

If you watch closely, you can also see her in Mihoyo’s Flavors of the World trailer around 3:20 a.m. She’s hidden in the background, just behind Keqing.

It is assumed that Yun Jin will be a four-star character since MiHoYo usually associates one with five-star announcements, and the leaks indicate that Shenhe is our five-star. Who will accompany him on his banner, ascension materials, and skills still have no official information.

Who is Shenhe?

“We went through many realms and took a lot of students. Among them, Shenhe looks the most like himself.” – Cloud Retainer

Shenhe is the other new MiHoYo character confirmed via a blog post. The Lonesome Transcendence is an exorcist and disciple of the Cloud Retainer, who bears a striking resemblance to the Adeptus. She is Genshin’s second Cryo pole weapon user, and Shenhe’s nature has apparently led some of Teyvat to speculate that she is a follower herself. That’s all according to MiHoYo’s summary:

“Living with adepti as a human is by no means an easy task, but Shenhe has a unique constitution, an immensely strong will and a great talent for the adept arts, which has earned him recognition from adepti. However, the long years of cultivation, coupled with the habit of eating divine herbs and drinking mountain dew, took her further and further away from earthly life, and she was even considered a mysterious follower of the White hair.

At this time, there is no official confirmation on what materials you will need to build Shenhe, and his skills remain unconfirmed. In all likelihood, we’ll learn more about this in late December, given MiHoYo’s usual timelines.

While leaks and speculation have revolved around Shenhe, the most likely scenario seems to point to her being the new five-star character in 2.4. Lumie, a Genshin Impact leaker who is often right, noted a beta 2.3 placeholder that seems to indicate Shenhe will have its own dungeon.

When are the Shenhe and Yun Jin banners coming out in Genshin Impact?

MiHoYo fell into the habit of announcing two characters a little before their patch. We have seen the same for version 2.3, so it is assumed that the Yun Jin and Shenhe banners will be released in version 2.4.

As for the date of this update, you will probably see it in early January if everything goes as usual with Genshin. This gives MiHoYo the usual five to six week length, unless there is a bit of a vacation or some unexpected hurdle.
