How to Toggle Explicit Content in Apple Music on Mobile and Desktop

Buried deep in Settings, how to show or hide explicit content in Apple Music/iTunes on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Web.

Toggle explicit content should be an easy task, but the options to turn it on or off aren’t visible anywhere in the Apple Music settings of the iPhone or Mac apps. In fact, the process is a bit easier on non-Apple devices.

Click to access one of the following devices:


Mobile – iPhone and iPad

  1. Head to the Settings application
  2. Faucet screen time
  3. Faucet Content and Privacy Restrictions
  4. Light up Content and Privacy Restrictions and select Content Restrictions
  5. Faucet Music, podcasts, news and workouts
    • Faucet To clean only allow clean music
    • Faucet Explicit enable all music


Mac

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner and navigate to System Preferences
  2. Click on screen time
  3. Click on Choice in the lower left corner and make sure screen time is switched At
  4. Head toward Content and Privacy in the left panel
  5. Light up Content and Privacy Restrictions, then head to the Shop tongue
    • Check Explicit music, podcasts and news for this content to display
    • Uncheck the box to hide this content


Windows (iTunes)

  1. In the menu bar, click Edit > Preferences
  2. Head to the Restrictions tab and make sure the padlock in the lower left corner is unlocked
    • Below Restrict, check Music with explicit content to hide explicit content
    • Uncheck this option to allow all content
  3. Click on Okay once you have made your settings


The Web – music.apple.com

  1. Click the profile icon in the upper right corner and select Settings
  2. Scroll to Parental control
  3. Light up Content Restrictions and enter or configure a password
    • To select To clean to display only clear music
    • To select Explicit to show all the music
