John Lewis has hired a new executive director for people to “develop and implement the people strategy” for the partnership.

Lisa Cherry will join the retail giant in early September. She replaces Nikki Humphrey who is to join the Virgin group.

Cherry, who is currently Group Human Resources Director for La Poste, has over 20 years of retail experience in both operational and HR leadership roles.

“Lisa will continue to develop and implement the human resources strategy for the Partnership’s 78,000 partners, all of whom are co-owners of the company,” said John Lewis.

“She will lead our work to create a people proposition that rewards and develops our partners, provides exceptional health and wellness support, and enhances our diversity and inclusion, so that we reflect the communities we serve.”

John Lewis President Sharon White added: “She brings a wealth of experience and an impressive background in retail. Lisa has a strong sense of purpose, which makes her an ideal candidate for the Partnership.

“Nikki’s has made a major contribution to the Partnership, working tirelessly to lay the foundation for a modern and more relevant partner proposition informed by the partners. I am sad to see Nikki go and she will be missed by all partners of the business.
