Amber Heard begs Johnny Depp to stop ‘smear campaign’ as court hears emotional sound

Court proceedings in the defamation lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have resumed after a week-long hiatus. As the break began, both sides issued statements expressing confidence in the proceedings.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $50 million for suggesting he abused her in 2018 Washington Post editorial. Although she did not name him, he says her allegations have impacted his ability to work.

Heard’s direct examination ended Monday mid-afternoon and cross-examination has now begun. In his testimony, Heard has already spoken extensively about his troubled relationship with Depp and detailed alleged physical fights. The court heard a harrowing account of an alleged sexual assault on Heard during a brutal and bloody altercation in Australia in 2015.

So far, the cross-examination has included an accusation. Heard staged a photo of cocaine on a breakfast table; several challenges to his accounts of injuries at the hands of Depp; and a tense discussion over the missing charitable donations promised in the divorce settlement.
