Montreal-Based Dating Site Advertises Ukrainian Women – Its Founder Defends It

It has been a month and a half since Russia invaded Ukraine, sparking strong reactions around the world. Near us there are protests in front of the Russian consulate and Ukrainian flags are sold in flag shops. But there is another industry that has seen a boom in recent weeks.

For Montreal dating site, a dating and matchmaking service that pairs men with Ukrainian women, business has only improved during this ongoing dispute.

Noovo Info was the first to report on Ukreine.

“I was thinking [the war] would be the end of our [site’s] existence, but surprisingly, the situation was quite the opposite,” Ukreine founder Dimitri Bereznyakov told MTL Blog.

“We have three times the interest from men, a lot of new registrations from men.” Bereznyakov suspects that the global conversation surrounding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has drawn attention to his Ukrainian-themed dating service.

“Some of the men, they never thought about dating abroad and they discovered Ukraine with this situation, and they got interested. Another [group] probably want to take advantage of the situation because they see that many women are fleeing. »

Ukreine has been online since 1998. For the past 24 years, it has been used by men from all over the world, including a man in Antarctica. The site interviews all women to determine their reasons for signing up. They are then matched with potentially compatible men.

According to Berezniakov, 7%-8% of single or divorced women in Ukraine are interested in finding love abroad. Sites like Ukreine have come under fire for exploiting women’s desire for a better life, a desire that has evidently grown more desperate in recent weeks. Bereznyakov maintains that he is only providing a service that meets the interests of all parties involved.

“It’s not us who are motivating women to flee Ukraine. It’s the Russian army. We have no impact on the reason. But we can make it easier for someone who is still single, always interested in meeting someone.”
