New Longton community proves to support Post Office couple who suffered homophobic abuse

Residents of New Longton have turned out in force to support a couple who run the local post office, after they suffered homophobic abuse.

The couple, Nathan Jones and Daniel Cooper, received hate mail after displaying a Pride flag outside their Station Road store.

Despite the rain, a huge crowd gathered in Pride paraphernalia yesterday (Tuesday June 28), to show the community that ‘love is love’.

A message from Nathan and Dan on the New Longton and Whitestake Community Facebook page said they found the support “overwhelming”.

Participant Russell Hesketh said: ‘A wonderful show of solidarity and support for the guys at the New Longton Post Office. It was such a good happy positive atmosphere. The perfect antidote to homophobic hate crimes. Love trumps hate.”
