Newtown blogger launches travel site

A Newtown who became an online travel influencer and blogger celebrates the launch of a website promoting Wales to the world.

Globetrotting entrepreneur Kieren Windsor has launched his quirky but comprehensive guide to Wales which he says aims to uncover hidden gems among the most well-known holiday spots.

The computer whiz from Newtown studied business and marketing at Cardiff University and started his marketing career at Wrexham’s Village Bakery before moving to the North West where he worked for bakery companies and confectionery in the Manchester area.

Kieren, 30, who went to school in Llanfair Caereinion, discovered the role of influencers in marketing through his job: “I was working with well-known bloggers in my day job and decided to launch myself.

“I started a backpacking blog as a hobby about five years ago and a few years later it turned into a full-time business, which allowed me to quit my daily work,” he said.

“It’s not about social media like most people imagine, I create content that people come to read directly or through search engines and that’s how I get hundreds of thousands of readers every month.”

Unfortunately, a few weeks after deciding to become a full-time blogger in 2020, the pandemic caused his income to plummet. But with no desire to return to office life, he doubled down on covering topics other than travel.

Now that travel is back on the agenda, he traveled again this summer, but this time to Wales, collecting material for his new business venture which can be found online at walesguidebook.com.

Kieren said: “Wales Guidebook aims to help people discover the best things to do in the area where they live, stay or visit.
“The site is launching with travel guides to over 100 locations, but will eventually cover all destinations in Wales. So whether you’re in Anglesey or Gwent, Flintshire or the Vale of Glamorgan, then Wales Guidebook can help you plan your trip.

Kieren isn’t just aimed at young travelers of the Rough Guide genre – it also wants to appeal to families and older adventurers and attract relevant advertising for anyone visiting Wales, whether it’s for a day trip. a day or a stay.

“I spent several months traveling around Wales this summer, visiting more castles, waterfalls and lighthouses than I can count.

“But I also found lesser-known things to do, like swimming in the Witches’ Cauldron in Pembrokeshire, visiting the grave of Gelert the Faithful Dog in Snowdonia and finding the Tidal Islands of Anglesey.

“Wales is my home country, so who better to start a site about? I can make recommendations based on my experience and drawing on local knowledge through the Wales network of experts who are working on the project with me.
