Meta is launching a summer series of virtual reality concerts and community activities called Horizon Block Party next week. Headlining the event is nine-time Grammy-nominated artist Post Malone, who is hosting a pre-recorded virtual concert on July 15.
Post Malone’s concert, which will feature tracks from his latest studio album Twelve karat toothacheis expected to last 40 minutes and will also feature The Kid Laroi, Fleet Foxes and Roddy Ricch during the event.
The event will take place in both Rooms and Horizon Worlds, and will loop three times on July 15 starting at 6:00 p.m. PT (local time here). It’s open to Quest 2 owners over the age of 18 in the US, Canada, and the UK.
If you can’t make it to the July 15 screenings, Quest 2 users can also find it in the “Always On” room of Rooms in Horizon Worlds Or on Oculus TV, where it will be available until September 30. For non-VR users, a 2D version will stream on Facebook Watch via Meta and Post Malone’s Facebook pages, as well as Messenger and Instagram via Watch Together.
Unlike some VR gigs in the past, which were heavily geared towards artist virtualizations, Post Malone’s upcoming set is expected to include a mix of hands-on effects and camera framing tailored to the 180 display. Meta calls the performance 8K” the highest resolution and fidelity for music performance on the platform to date and the first major flagship event in Horizon Worlds.”
