In 2018, the ProVeg Incubator was launched as the world’s first program for plant-based, fermentation and cell-based food startups. ProVeg Incubator aims to fill the most pressing gaps in food technology by recruiting leading innovators for its world-leading accelerator program. Pioneer founders who develop plant-based, fermented and cultured alternatives to animal products and ingredients can apply now to join the ninth cohort of ProVeg Incubator startups.
Since its launch, the ProVeg incubator has supported more than 70 startups from around the world, including Remilk, Better Nature, Vly Foods, Haofood, Omni, Mushlabs, Formo, Hooked and the Nu Company. Collectively, the Alumni of the ProVeg Incubator have raised over €230 million, with products stocked in over 15,000 stores worldwide.
For its ninth cohort, the incubator is particularly interested in receiving applications from startups that are developing next-level egg, seafood, and meat alternatives, as well as breakthrough ingredients and technologies that can help replace bulk animal products. ladder.
The program lasts 12 weeks, kicks off at the end of September and is hosted online, which means startups from all over the world can participate. Read on to learn more about what the ProVeg Incubator program offers.
Up to €250,000 in funding
Each startup that joins the ProVeg incubator has the opportunity to receive up to €250,000 in funding (including €50,000 in in-kind services). Particularly in the early stages, you will need money for R&D, product development, and recruiting, among other things. This support and investment from ProVeg sends a strong signal to other investors – both for your first investment cycle and for subsequent investment cycles.
Investment terms are determined based on our assessment framework and will be agreed before startups join the program. In-kind services include workshops and coaching sessions led by recognized experts, access to our extensive industry networks, use of our facilities and much more.
Join a community
Many incubator alumni startups say one of the most valuable parts of the program is the community it creates. When you join ProVeg Incubator, you join a group of like-minded founders with similar goals of transforming the global food system.
You may all have different products, solutions and business models, but you will always face the same challenges, and a key aspect of the program is supporting and learning from each other. The incubator will also connect you with our former founders who have been there before and have done so.
Access to a global network in the food industry
The ProVeg Incubator team has an extensive network of investors, retailers and food industry experts to connect with. Every founder needs support on their entrepreneurial journey, and having the right people in your network is essential to achieving your business goals. The saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know”, it may be a cliché but it contains a lot of truth.
Group of over 100 mentors
The ProVeg incubator works with more than 100 sponsors with a wide range of skills, from retail and marketing to investing, business planning, branding, product development and team building. Mentors provide support and guidance to our startups in the form of workshops, fireside chats, Q&As, and one-on-one mentoring sessions.
The incubator team matches each accepted startup with an experienced mentor in areas where the business needs the most help. Plus, founders have access to the entire ProVeg network, allowing you to tap into a wide range of skills and experience early on in your journey. Startups and their respective mentors work together on challenges and strategies in one-on-one sessions.
Often the match is so precise that mentors end up working with startups long after the program is over. For instance, plantcraft, one of our alumni, graduated from the Incubator program in 2019 and is still working with David Benzaquen, their main program mentor. Here’s what Kati Ohens, co-founder of Plantcraft has to say about mentoring: “When the incubator connected us with our main mentor, it was so relevant that, even years later, we’re still working with him. David Benzaquen is one of our most valued advisors. Part of our sixth cohort, Kern Tec, said “Our experience at ProVeg Incubator has far exceeded our expectations. The mix of education and networking was exactly what we needed”.
Additionally, startup founders also benefit from mentorship from the ProVeg incubator core team. This includes in-depth company reviews, weekly strategy meetings, business plan feedback and investor presentations. We develop lasting relationships with our founders and work with them for as long as they need us.
Access to all ProVeg incubator and partner services
In addition to participating in all the workshops, expert talks and exclusive events that are part of the program, by joining the ProVeg incubator you will have access to many other services. For example, the coworking space in Berlin, our test community of more than 20,000 members, the know-how and facilities of food industry partners, as well as our catering services and research departments.
You could also benefit from Label V certification and our links to key industry events, trade shows and media publications. Additionally, the ProVeg Incubator extensively promotes startups participating in the program with blog posts, social media content, and press releases, giving your business the marketing boost it needs across major platforms.
