The Gusties post a pair of 3-0 wins


Dubuque, Iowa — Having just suffered their first two losses of the season in their last two games, Gustavus’ volleyball team was determined to regroup, and the Gusties did so convincingly.

The Gusties, who dropped Game 1 of the Invitational 3-1 at UW-Stevens Point on Friday, opened Saturday’s action with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 sweep over Grinnell, before finishing their second 3-0 sweep. with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-21 win over host Loras.

Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.) and Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) led the way for Gustavus against Grinnell, hammering out 14 and 13 wins apiece. Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) delivered a team-best 25 assists and Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) delivered a team-leading 20 digs. Turn added 14 digs for his fifth double-double of the season, while Tweet also notched a double-double, adding 13 digs to his 24 assists.

Turn was also the team leader against Loras, posting 11, with Elliott and Lauren Klaith (Jr., Rockford) achieving 10 eliminations each. Tweet once again eclipsed the 20 assist mark, dishing out 22 assists, while Sundberg notched a team-high 13.

The Gusties (9-2 overall) kick off conference play Wednesday, heading to St. Paul, Minnesota, for a 7 p.m. showdown with Macalester.
