UConn football announces series with UMass through 2027, will play neutral site game in 2023

UConn Football and UMass announced on Monday that they will play each other through at least the 2027 season and play a neutral-site game in 2023 at a location yet to be determined. The two schools have faced each other every season the two have played football since 2018 and have met a total of 76 times, including a game scheduled for Friday night. Currently, the Minutemen have a 38-35-2 advantage over the Huskies all-time in the rivalry.

Details surrounding the venue for the neutral site game for next season, scheduled for Nov. 25, 2023, have yet to be announced, but there are signs that Fenway Park will host the game. UConn most recently played at Fenway Park in 2017 against Boston College, and the Minutemen will be considered the home team for the game.

In 2024, the Huskies will travel to McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Massachusetts to face the Minutemen on November 20, 2024. UMass will then come to Rentschler Field on November 29, 2025 and October 24, 2026 before the series ends. (for now) with a trip to Amherst for UConn on October 16, 2027.

With the UMass Series now in place, UConn has also finalized its 2023 schedule by announcing that they will participate in the FCS Sacred Heart program on November 18 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Since both UConn and UMass are independents in the same general area who also have a long-standing rivalry, there is always a common interest between the two schools to compete against each other, especially later in the season, as the teams with conference affiliations are in the middle of league play. As long as at least one of the two schools remains independent, the game of rivalry between them should continue for years.
